Kagawa, 23, has only a year left on his contract and has signalled his intent to move to the Premier League this summer, with Manchester United seemingly leading the race for his services.
However, given that Bayern Munich paid Schalke €22 million for Manuel Neuer last year when his contract had 12 months remaining, Dortmund are confident they can secure a significant fee.
“We all know the abilities of Shinji, his youth and the value he adds to this side,” Watzke told Sport Bild. “I also note what Bayern Munich paid for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. He also only had a year left on his contract. Given those facts we can certainly expect a princely sum for him.”

That seems like fair logic but will Man United be willing to fork out £17.7m for a player they could get for free in a years time? Clearly there may be other suitors who are ready to enter the race but until they surface Sir Alex Ferguson may not need to urgently pursue the Japanese international, not at the price quoted by this source.
The talented young Borussia Dortmund attacker has been a huge success since his move to the Bundesliga, scoring goals and providing assists with regularity and helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to back to back domestic titles in the two seasons he has been at the club.
However Klopp, much like with Nuri Sahin last summer, is struggling to persuade the Kobe born 23 year old to stay at the Westfalenstadion so it’s not a big surprise that the club would look to maximize the fee they can generate from his sale.
Ferguson could well do with another goal-scoring avenue in his armoury and an extra creative edge in his midfield would not go amiss. Kagawa works more commonly in an advanced central midfield role and given that the Scot’s current midfield options, Michael Carrick, Anderson, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher, do not provide a great deal of directness, goals or assist making potential, a move for the Borussia Dortmund man would be a wise one.
