AS Roma 0 - Manchester United 2

Cristiano Ronaldo is officially a God and no, AS Roma won't be getting their revenge. At least for this season...

Roma might talked the talk about how they are going to get their revenge this season, how they are not afraid of us, but the fact is, in the first leg Champions League quarter-final match against Manchester United, they failed big time to deliver of what they have been saying in the last few weeks prior to the match.

Roma started the game well, while in the defense department Rio Ferdinand looked a bit shaky. And midway in the first half, Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic landed awkwardly and injured his left knee. But to my surprise, after Vidic was substituted, Rio stepped up his game and played one of the best game of his life.

Roma played smart, they didn't go all out on attacking mode which cost them their a big wide hole in their defense last season, but apparently United played a lot smarter. Instead of falling into Roma's defensive trap, United set up a defensive mode of their own. This caught Roma off guard, and they started to attack and open up their defense.

United's first goal came from a counter attack. A good link up play between Rooney and Scholes, and then ended up with a Ronaldo's header that hit the back of the net. Ronaldo came out of nowhere and scored his 36th goal of the season.... Freakish....

Ronaldo then had a bit of fun by demonstrating his step overs skills, only to be roughly fouled by Pizarro. You can tell that Claudio was pissed by having a kid owning him in front of 80000 crowd. But he foolishly got himself a yellow card, haha, what a pussy....

In the second half, Roma got a brilliant chance from a Vucinic header, only to be saved by a more brilliant van der Sar, Vucinic BTW was Roma's best player in the match. He really gave Rio and van der Sar a run for their money.

After Roma dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half, United delivered the killer blow. It started from a cross from the right, and on the left side of United's attack, Park Ji Sung came out of nowhere like Ronaldo in the previous goal, and headed the ball across the goal. Doni had to make an awkward catch and failed big time. His unsuccessful attempt made the ball fell right of Rooney's feet who was just a couple of centimeters away from the goal line, an easy tap in for Wayne, and United lead by 2-0.

This quarter-final is over from there. You can see from the Roma's players body language that they had already given up. Their face and eyes showed it all, it seems like they were saying "We can't never beat them, they're just too good". When Totti is for real out of this match, it was a job half done for us, since Roma lost their soul and leader from the get go. It was Vucinic who really played his heart out for them but that's not enough.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Roma is a terrible team, they can beat any team they want from Madrid to Barcelona, they can even beat Chelsea or Arsenal, but their 7-1 defeat last season against us was a major factor for their mentality. They are still traumatized by that, and no matter what they said on papers, the reality is, Roma is still pretty much afraid of us. You are what your minds tell you, and that's pretty much the case for Roma. In their mind they still think inside themselves that we are a lot superior to them.

I had a personal sympathy for Casetti, he was the only Roma player who told the press how he hates it when he found out it was United again this season in the quarter final. In the match, it was pretty evident how Evra schooled him night in night out, and gave him a long hard night at the Olympico.

I don't see any chance of Roma getting through or making a miracle comeback at Old Trafford. I'm sorry Roma fans, your team have been brave throughout this campaign, but a better team won, and a better team will move on to the semi final. In this case it's Manchester United.
